Additional Learning Support

In working towards ensuring that we are an entirely inclusive College, we will make any reasonable adaptations to our policies, practices and accommodation to support you in your programme of study.

If you consider that you have a disability, a learning difficulty or a particular personal support need, we will make any reasonable adaptations to meet your needs.

If you require academic support to make the most of your programme of study the Additional Support Team will be able to help you. On some courses it is a pre-entry requirement that you undertake a brief Initial Assessment to establish your level of literacy or numeracy and this will be discussed with you by your Progress Tutor. If you would benefit from additional academic support in small groups or one-to-one with a specialist lecturer then this will be arranged for you as part of your programme of study.

If at any stage during your course you think you would benefit from extra support you can discuss this with your Progress Tutor or pop into one of the two main Learning Centres. There you will be able to book an appointment to discuss your support with a member of the Additional Support Team. Specialist staff are on hand to provide support in literacy, numeracy, ESOL or for Specific Learning Difficulties including dyslexia.

Our admissions’ process allows you to identify your support needs at an early stage, so that we can put in place the support you may need. The College Application and Enrolment Forms have a series of boxes which you can use to highlight your support needs. Or, if you prefer, you can ask for a confidential interview with a member of the Additional Support Team.

It is important that you let us know your support requirements as soon as possible so that we can respond. This is particularly important if you require any form of adaptation or concession with an external examination, such as extended time, a reader or emanuensis. We will then contact the Awarding Body on your behalf to negotiate the appropriate concession.

However, if at any stage of your programme of study you feel the need for support you can discuss this with your Progress Tutor or a member of the Additional Support Team in the Learning Centres.
