Home Students

To be considered as a home student for fees purposes, you must have been normally and legally resident in the UK or in any EEA country (see below) for three years before starting a course.

To be considered as a legal UK resident, you must be able to provide documentary evidence to show that you are:

  • A British citizen, eligible to hold a full British passport
  • Asylum seekers who have been granted full refugee status or the husband/wife/partner of a refugee (refugees do NOT need 3 years’ residency before starting a course)
  • Discretionary Leave to Remain or granted Exceptional Leave to Enter or Remain in the UK or the husband/wife/partner of such a person
  • Have been legally in the UK for longer than 6 months while the Home Office is considering your claim but eligible and granted support under Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. You should be in possession of a registration card (ARC) and can produce a personal post office (current month) receipt for Asylum Support Assistance (AS, formally known as NASS)

If you are the husband/wife/relative of any of the above, you will NOT be considered as a home student unless you qualify for home student status yourself.

If you DO NOT meet any of the conditions above, you will be considered as an overseas student for fees purposes. This means that you will be charged overseas student fees and will have to pay these fees in full before the start of the course.
