 English Courses

British Council and UK English Logos

City College Coventry offers a choice of courses designed to improve your English language skills and to prepare you for university or employment, at home or in the UK.

When you join us, you will be given a thorough induction programme, and for students on academic or vocational courses, we will ensure that on-going English language support is available to you throughout the academic year if needed.

English Intensive

From September to June each year, our full-time English Intensive Course provides 15 or 21 hours per week classroom study at a variety of levels. Our 15 hour option includes general English classes (based on a course book) and Skills Development sessions – focusing on one skill, for example speaking, reading or presentation skills. The 21 hour option enables you to maximise your time here with us and take part in our workshops in the afternoon. This may be a conversational workshop and a writing workshop. If we have a high demand for IELTS classes this option can be run as a workshop helping you to prepare for your IELTS exam.

We enrol students every two weeks during term time and have a minimum of two levels and a maximum of 16 students in each class at all times.

We are not able to take absolute beginners on any of these programmes.

Included in your tuition fees from September to June are:

  • Monthly excursions
  • Course books
  • Weekly tutorials
  • Free e-mail facilities and Internet access.

This course is a roll-on roll-off course which allows to start and finish the course when it suits you.

Fees for the 2011-2012 academic year for the 15 hour course:

  • £160 per week

Fees for the 2011-2012 academic year for the 21 hour course:

  • £210 per week

Please note: Deposits are non-refundable.  Exceptions to this may be made if visa applications are refused.  An administration charge of £85.00 will be made to cover administration costs.

During July and August, you can join our Summer School.  Like the Intensive English Course, it runs at a minimum of two levels and provides 3 hours of tuition each morning, with an opportunity to attend tutorials.  We also run workshops in the afternoon allowing you to study on either the 15 hour or 21 hours per week programme. Classes have a maximum of 16 students.

There is a full programme of afternoon social activities as well as half-day and full-day excursions.  Some of the places you can visit for full-day excursions are Oxford, London and Birmingham.  The afternoon excursions will allow you to visit local places of interest such as Stratford-Upon-Avon and Warwick Castle as well as take part in fun activities such as bowling and ice-skating.   Although some of these activities are free on the summer programme, some you will need to pay for, we advise you to allow for £15-25 per week for activities and excursions.

These trips and activities are an excellent way for you to experience British Culture and also to meet many students from different countries and cultures in a relaxed and fun environment..
