This Apprenticeship programme covers all relevant aspects of engineering. It is a structured training programme, negotiated with the employer and is a mixture of college and in-company training. An Apprenticeship usually takes between two to four years to complete although this may vary slightly depending on the needs of the employer and the apprentice.
Entry Requirements
Apprentices will normally require a minimum of three GCSE passes at Grade C or above, in English, Mathematics and Science.
What is included in an Apprenticeship Programme?
Apprentices are required to study the following:
- NVQ Level 2
consists of 8 units of Performing Engineering Operations
- NVQ Level 3 - this is negotiated with the employer and is delivered completely in company. Apprentices will follow one of the following routes:
- Engineering Production
- Engineering Maintenance
- Technical Services
- Aerospace
- Key Skills
- Application of Number - Level 2
- Communication - Level 2
- Information Technology - Level 2
- Working with Other - Level 2
- Improving Own Learning and Performance - Level 2
- Appropriate Technical Certificate
Employment
Most apprentices are employed. However, it is possible to enrol on a vocational course at College during which the College will try to help you gain employment as an apprentice.
In summary, there are two possible ways of gaining an apprenticeship;
a) Apply for an apprenticeship with an employer directly from school
b) Enrol on the vocational course of your choice at College during which the College will try to help you gain employment as an apprentice.
